Sheffield super club Gatecrasher has hailed the success of a special launch event held to mark the release of the Xbox version of Vivendi Universal's The Thing for the Microsoft console.
Coinciding with Gatecrasher's eighth birthday, the event was co-sponsored by The Thing publisher Vivendi and Xbox creator Microsoft, with a number of Xbox pods on hand to allow clubbers to get to grips with the movie tie-in. As the likes of Judge Jules,Fergie,Paul Van Dyk and Pete Tong DJ'd throughout the night, the party marked one of the first public showings of the eagerly awaited horror title.
Developed by Computer Artworks, The Thing continues from where John Carpenter's seminal horror work leaves off. A party of troops is sent to investigate the disappearance of McReady and his cohorts, but ultimately fall foul of the shape-shifting creature. As players fight to stay alive within the claustrophobic and menace-laden Arctic base, they must remain alert to see if their comrades are infected and ultimately attempt to finish the creature once and for all. With its stunning graphics and intriguing gameplay, the game has been universally acclaimed and is enjoying huge success on Xbox, PlayStation 2 and PC.
"The Thing launch was a huge success, and the combination of a game of that quality and Gatecrasher's usual high standards of music were always going to do well," commented Steve Martin brand manger Vivendi Universal.
"It's been over 4 years since we had games at The Republic so it was great to bring them back with such a fantastic title. The response has been amazing and we estimate over 3,000 people have played it in the last 2 weeks alone with a further 1 million people viewing the competition online. The synergy between dance music and gaming seems to be stronger than ever and we're looking forward to continuing our relationship with Vivendi Universal over the coming months".said Ezra Garside-Gatecrasher.
