Square Bought By Japanese Publisher Enix
Posted by talleyrand on Tuesday, November 26 2002

In a surprise announcement today Enix stated it has purchased Square with a stock swap forming the worlds largest RPG publishing firm. Starting tomorrow Enix will take over Square's offices as Square will be disbanded and its assest's folded into the Enix. The new company will be called Square-Enix.
Among Square-Enix's first statements is that since Sony holds a much smaller share of the combined companies(its not yet clear how much, if any, Sony will end up owning) Square-Enix will be a Third party publisher and no longer will games be exclusive to the PS2 without further agreements.
Does this means Final Fantasy XI on the Xbox?
Who knows, tune in for more info as it unfolds.
Square-Enix has a press conference scheduled for 10:30 pm PST tonight so more will be known in a couple hours when news hits the web.
