Microsoft working on new Xbox chip!
Posted by Alclarity on Monday, August 26 2002
An article in Dow Jones Newswires states that Focus Enhancements has plans on developing a new video encoder chip for the Microsoft Xbox currently known as the FS454. The main focus of the FS454 is to make the Xbox's price more competetive towards the Playstation 2 and Gamecube. Microsoft's current chip developer, Conexant Systems, will be left with a large production hole to fill since they've been providing its video encoder chips since the Xbox's launch November 2001. Microsoft's engagement with Focus Enhancements is not yet final. Focus Enhancement currently designs video chips for the computer and television industries.
