Video Games Get Their Own TV Award Ceremony

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) -- Videogame characters like Mario and Laura Croft will soon be honored with their own TV award ceremony. That's because TNN will air a videogame version of the Oscars late next year.
Albie Hecht, TNN's president of film and television entertainment, says when Shaquille O'Neal has his own videogame, and "Tomb Raider" has a spin-off movie, it's time videogames have their own ceremony.
Hecht, who will produce the show, says he hopes to garner top quality celebs to hand out awards in categories like "Most Addictive," "Coolest Villian" and "Best Free-For-All Carnage."
However, Hecht shrugs off any media upheaval over the carnage category saying, "It's a game. That's why they call it a game. They said it about my comic books, and they said it about my Saturday morning cartoons."
