Turok: Evolution
Reviewed by: Bagel

I have been a Turok fan since the original Turoks on the Nintendo 64, and I absolutely could not wait for this version of Turok to be released. Turok: Evolution does have its problems but for the most part it is a good game.

Gameplay: The game starts off with a cut scene and it leads you off into the jungle and you have no idea how or why you are there. At the very beginning all you really do is walk and kill, common sense. You start off needing to find a key. This is easy, because the only way you can go leads you right to the key. Now later on once you get to the flying part is where the trouble begins. The flying part of the game is very hard and frustrating. You crash into walls often, blowing up. Even in some cases I have noticed I have blown up in the middle of no where. The flying controls just are not responsive at all making it extremely hard and frustrating.

The AI in Turok: Evolution is well pretty bad. I would like to refer to it as retarded. The AI always seems to get stuck behind trees. They will be chasing after you like they are blind and they just run into a tree, and have no idea the tree is even there. Then they will still chase after you only they are not moving because they are stuck behind a tree.

Graphics: The graphics in Turok: Evolution is pretty good and bad. The overall environment looks pretty amazing, but then some parts in the game just look bad. Especially when walking up close to bushes and stuff. There are a lot of graphical glitches in the game. For instance, you can walk up to a giant dinosaur and just walk right through it. You can even stand in the middle of it and it will appear like there is no dinosaur even there. Another thing is the walls seem to just end. You will be walking up a hill and then all of a sudden you just can’t go anymore, as there is a bush there. It seems like you can keep walking by going through the bush but you just can’t.

Controls: The controls in this game are very easy. They also happen to be the same controls as Halo. If you enjoyed the Halo controls, I know you will get along with these controls.

Replay: There is plenty of replay value in this game. After you beat the main game then this game is probably done for you. If you enjoy multiplayer though then there is countless hours of fun left for you. The multiplayer modes are as follows:

Death Match- Battle to the death. Highest score wins.
Team Dm- Team up to fight each other to the death.
Hunter- Win by killing as the hunter. Kill the hunter to become one.
CTF- Steal the other teams fire and return it to your own.
One Flag- Battle for the single torch to light your teams fire.
Last Mans- Battle to be the last alive in each round of death.
Turok Fight- Battle to the death with Warclubs and Bows only.
Team Turok- Team up using Bows and Warclubs only.
Warrior Rage- Multiple kills without dying increases your power.
Blood Bath- Warriors start fully loaded. Total insanity.
Beginner DM- Auto balancing the good and the weak.
Sniper Match- Sniper Pistol and Bows. Only headshots count.
Monkey Tag- Hold on to the Monkey. Win by holding it the longest.
Flight- Fight to the death on the backs of Pteranodons.

As you can see there is plenty of replay ability for you and your partner(s).

Sound: The sound in Turok: Evolution is average. The Indian themed music goes along perfectly with this type of game. The music also gets faster as there is more action going on.

Overall Presentation: I found Turok: Evolution to be a quite enjoyable. Besides from the few problems which are easily put aside, Turok can be a good game. I can only recommend a buy if you are a hardcore Turok fan, otherwise I'd say give this one a rental.
