Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
Reviewed by: Galenros
The PC game legend is finally released on Xbox! The sequel to Jedi Knight: Dark Forces.
Gameplay: You are Kyle Katarn, and you are a retired Jedi Knight. You are now a mercenary, doing anything as long as it pays the right price. Jan Ors is your inseparable partner, after you saved her from an Imperial prison.
You start out at a small outpost that was formerly owned by the Empire, several years after the final destruction of the Death Star. You find something terribly disturbing, and end up retaking your position as a Jedi Knight. Once you regain your old knowledge of the Force, you embark on a vigilante quest to avenge the death of a loved one.
Sadly, this game is only two players. The PC version had almost limitless possiblities, ranging from online play to downloadable skins. But, it is still a great game if your PC is not good enough to run the computer version.
Graphics: The graphics for this game are very realistic. From the lightsaber effects to the Force powers, one could really not tell the difference between this and the movies themselves.
Controls: The controls are relatively easy to learn. However, it is rather difficult to use more than two powers when needed. One must switch through the spell list, and then cast it, which takes a considerable amount of time if he is in a duel. But, thanks to the brilliance of the programmers, they have designed a way to "bind" a power to a certain button. Yet, they only made the white and black buttons "bindable".
Other than that, the controls are great.
Replay: The replay value in this game is more in the bottom percentile. Most people wouldn't even finish the single player story, for it is very challenging. If indeed one finishes the single player missions, they would most likely sell the game.
However, the multiplayer is exhilirating, and will be hard to let go.
Sound: The sound is excellent. The programmers probably went to the movies for this. You can even hear the clashing of the lightsabers during an epic moment, or the "woosh" of a Force push.
Overall Presentation: This is by far one of the best LucasArts games, and if you had a choice over any of their games out on Xbox, you should get this one.
