Star Wars:Knights of the Old Republic
Reviewed by: Inam

So far there has not been a standout Star Wars game on the Xbox; Star Wars:Knights of the Old Republic has just changed that. Set 4,000 years before the first Star Wars movie and the galaxy in disarray the battle between the Jedi and Sith still rages on.

You are thrown into the mix of it all when your ship is attacked by the Sith and crashes onto the planet of Taris. You are set out to find a jedi and you find what you believe is the force inside of you this is where the game really gets going. You can choose to join the Dark side, and help the sith kill the jedi; or choose the Light side, help the jedi wipe out the sith... the choice is yours.

Gameplay: The gameplay is a strong feature in this game. The fighting is not the traditional fighting though that you are used to in a regular RPG. Once your character sees an enemy then a list of things you can choose from pops up. Some of the things you can choose include: force powers, use item, throw grenade, and combat skills. Then you choose one and do it; then your attacker does his/her move and it pops back up again that is how fighting goes on. This style really set this game apart from others, in my opinion. It is a great change. If you have more than one character, than you can switch between them and give them combat moves throughout the battle as well. To level up, you get points from killing things and when you get enough you level up your character goes to a screen and you have the choice to choose from many different skills, attributes, feats, and force powers. This part of the game is also done very well. You decide what you want your character to be good at. For example, if you would like you character to be good at hacking computer systems, then you can improve your skills in that. It is a simple, yet effective aspect of the game to make your character how you want it to be.

Graphics: The graphics in this game are flat-out amazing. The lip-synching in this game is the best ever seen in any video game to date. Other games had better raise the bar in this area or they will look sub-par compared to this game's lip-synching.The buildings look fantastic and the forest of Kashyyk look like something you could see walking through the forest, they are simply perfect. The grass on Dantooine look real when swaying in the wind and moving around your feet, the sand swirls on Tatooine look amazing. All the characters in Knight of the Old Republic are magnificently done and each race was made well and you will be able to pick out the races that you recoginze from the movies very easily in the game.

Controls: The controls in this game were done very well. There are a lot of menus to navigate through and sometimes it is hard to do but when walking and fighting occur it is easy to control. The learning curve of the controls is very easy and you will pick up on them very fast. Controls being easy is a high point of the game.

Replay: The replay value for this game is high, in fact it is extremely high. After finishing the game on one of the modes, Light side or Dark side, you can turn right around and play on the other side. Also, LucasArts and Bioware are planning on releasing downloadable content via Xbox Live; which will add to the replay value even more. With such expansive level mapping and a deep story, there is sure to be many secrets hidden in this game. Finding all of these will add to the replay value as well.

Sound: The sound makes you actually feel like you are in a Star Wars movie; it is done so well . When lightsabers collide, you get that awesome sound. The voice acting is done fantastic as well and amazingly does not get repetative. The music in this game is very Star Wars-esque and does not get old.

Overall Presentation: This is easily the best RPG on Xbox right now. Any RPG fan or any Star Wars fan should buy this game AS SOON AS YOU CAN!!! This game is simply amazing and could possibly be the best game on Xbox to date.
