Fuzion Frenzy
Reviewed by: Alclarity
In the past, Blitz Games has given us titles such as Glover and Frogger 2. Fuzion Frenzy is Blitz Games' attempt to create a game like Mario Party, except it isn't in the board game style. The game is split into five different areas in which the players contend. Each area has different types of events (ie the 'Waterfront' has JetBoat Minigames and 'Downtown' has Fireworks Minigames). There are six characters to choose from: Dub, Samson, Geena, Naomi, Zak, and Jet however, there are no differences- character unique advantages between each of them. The points are counted in Orbs which at the end of every area, can be waged among other players in winner-take-all 'Fuzion Frenzy' matches. The player with the most Orbs at the end of all the stages wins the game.
Gameplay: The gameplay is fast and flashy, so if you like both, this could be the game for you. With all the minigame variations, this game will keep you busy with the fourty-five minigames that include goals such as: Elimination, Rapping to the beat, and squashing insects. There's never a dull moment, except when you are losing! This game is made for multiplayer, even when you want to play by yourself, there is a four player minimum, as well as a four-player max which is unfortunate. If Blitz Games decides to make a sequal and add system-link and slightly larger maps, that would be something to really look forward to.
Graphics: The Xbox's graphic's card is really put to use in this game with detailed backgrounds and the constant moving of objects across the screen. While playing I have been unable to detect any noticable screen lag whatsoever. Some of the displays through out the game can get boring or irritating due to the immense number of colours that are used along side the strange matching of colours used.
Controls: Some of the controls are very sensitive, with no really good way to tweak them. You could of course use the D-Pad but what fun is that? The controls are also very very simple. Most minigames are limited to having to only use the Joystick+A and B buttons.
Replay: "Up for another round?" is often said, only if everyone is on an even playing level. If this is your first time playing, the learning curve isn't very thick and becoming a minigame master shouldn't take long unless you have bad depth- perception, or really slow reaction-time. The most I can play this game is for perhaps three games of two stages, two games of 4 stages, or one game of six stages. It really depends on who's winning and how often in this game to really affect the replay value.
Sound: The announcer is really annoying in this game with his gameshow accent and strange tone of voice. I'd rather listen to the shoddy rap music used in the background than listen to the announcer. Some of the minigame sound effects really add to gameplay while others aren't really necessary.
