NASCAR Heat
Reviewed by: Joel

Is it just me or have there been quite a few Nascar games being released. Nascar Games have been coming increasingly popular over the years and now Infogrames brings there Nascar simulation to the XBOX.

Gameplay: Nascar Heat is jam packed with several game modes including: Quick Race, Single Race, Beat the Heat, Race the Pro, and Championship Mode. The Beat the Heat mode is in my mind the best mode in the game where you are given specific tasks you need to complete to go through the levels. As you progress through the levels you will notice the tasks become more and more difficult and then become down right impossible.

There are two types of Nascar games which are arcade and simulation. Heat takes the simulation road, and I felt that it was a little to much of a simulation for me. One false move and your going to cause a major pile up. After play Heat for a long while I felt that I started to get the hang of it and even started placing in a few races.

The computer AI is very impressive for this one. The computer AI is the best I have seen in a Nascar game. The AI is very responsive and works extremely well with the game. This makes for some excellent competition.

Graphics: Heat does an excellent job of making the tracks look nice. I really think that they did an excellent job with the little things in Heat like the grass and the skid marks look pretty real. Where the cars on the other hand aren't very detailed and rather disappointing to look at.

Controls: The controls are a little to responsive for my taste. The first thing you will notice is how touchy the analog stick is, one bad move and you can expect a major collision. Past that the controls are well mapped out and easy to learn.

Replay: Currently no rating.

Sound: The commentary from the racing pro's is pretty cool although it can be rather stale. The engine sounds are also a little disappointing they are not very realistic sounding and sounds like they just threw it in just to have. I think that the sound would have worked perfectly if they would have had some music in the game.

Overall Presentation:

Scores:
Gameplay: 8
Graphics: 7
Controls: 7
Replay: 8
Sound: 7

Total Score: 8
