UFC Tapout
Reviewed by: Joel
Who needs wrestling when you got the Ultimate Fighter Championship a real sport in which two guys get into an octagon ring and kick the living daylights out of each other. Well, not Crave Entertainment has brought the UFC to the XBOX for one brutal fast paced game.
Gameplay: If you haven't watch the UFC before there are three ways to win a match knockout, tapout, and decision. The matches can take a few seconds or up to three rounds, but I have yet to be in a match that has even made it close to the third round. Scoring a knockout is easier then it sounds you just need to through a few punches get your opponents stamina down and do a submission hold on him.
For such a fast paced game it is amazing how much strategy is involved. Every attempt for a submission makes you vulnerable to a counter attack from your opponent. I found the computer usually scores more tap outs then I would. I found that I usually won win a knockout.
Not only can submission holds be countered but so can kicks and punches if timed correctly. If you time a punch or kick correctly you can counter it and that usually leads to you scoring a victory.
Tap Out has four game modes including Exhibition, Arcade Mode, Tournament Mode, and UFC Mode. I was extremely disappointed with how short the UFC Mode was. It is just a randomly selected tournament mode.
UFC also has a create a player mode. There are not many faces to choose from and you cannot really have a customizable.
Graphics: The character models look excellent. There muscles look pretty realistic and there bodies look like they should. You can see that there has been a lot of work and detail put into these characters.
The camera angle is something that really didn't do UFC well. Whenever you go for a submission hold the camera goes for another view and it doesn't work correctly. there are a lot of little things with the camera that need fixed.
Controls: The controls are extremely easy to get the hang of and are very well mapped on the XBOX controller. I feal that without the good controls Tap Out would not have been as much fun to play as it is now.
Replay: Currently no rating.
Sound: Excuse me can someone direct me to the commentators? Oh that's right Tap Out doesn't have any commentary. Without the commentary the sound in Tap Out it rather pathetic. The crowd really isn't there and the grunts are very repetitive.
