Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter
Reviewed by: Ben
Although Jedi Starfighter received mediocre reviews, I looked past the few flaws, and saw a fun game.
Gameplay: Jedi Starfighter may be flawed, but I believe its still fun. To get them out of the way, Ill start telling you about the flaws. Every level is basically the same. Blow lots of stuff up, or guard a fortress. You get the idea. Its pretty much exactly like Starfighter: Special Edition, except more polished.
The main story mode is straightforward. You choose a level and a difficulty. Easy, medium, hard, and co-op. Each varies in difficulty by adjusting enemy A.I. (artificial intelligents). You fly around in different ships (which can be unlocked by completing hidden and bonus missions) and blast away a multitude of enemies. Fun, but can be very repetitive at times. Usually the shooting sprees have purpose. For example, your fleet is under attack, and you have to protect your ships form enemy fire. If you stray away from the fleet to take incoming enemies, another batch might swoop in and destroy whatever you are protecting. The game can be super easy at some moments, and frustratingly hard at others. It is definitely worth playing. If you are still a little unsure about buying it, it is definitely worth the rental.
Graphics: The graphics in Jedi Starfighter range from astounding, to “that really sucks”. Almost all of the time, the scenery amazes me. Almost. The planets look beautiful, vibrant, and colour rich. In the first level of the game, the stars in the sky looked awful. They were all the same size, and looked very plain and generic. Sometimes the ships can look astounding with detail, and sometimes it is just a plain, non-detailed texture. When you compare the graphics in this to Rouge Leader on GameCube, you think to yourself, “Hey isn’t Xbox better than GameCube? Why doesn’t it look it in this game?” You will probably be disappointed about this shoddy port, with very few upgrades.
Controls: The controls are very simple in Jedi Starfighter. You basically have one button press commands. No hassle at all. Even my 7 year old brother could figure it out.
Replay: Jedi Starfighter is jam packed with replay options. Every level has for different difficulty setting, easy, medium, hard, and co-operative. Every level also has bonus and hidden missions. By completing them, you can unlock new bonus levels, new ships, and extra features, such as upcoming game trailers, creator commentary, and a gag reel of pretend mess-ups on the set of the video sequences in the game. This game should keep you going for awhile.
Sound: As most Lucas games, sound is a key thing. Jedi Starfighter supports Dolby Digital 5.1. There are tons of special effects, voice acting, and other various features. You should enjoy this.
