Quantum Redshift
Reviewed by: Ben

Quantum Redshift is the fastest racing experience you will have for some time. If you liked Star Wars Pod Racer, then you will probably LOVE this game.

Gameplay: You are one of the world’s top racers in the year 2102. When you are zooming through a course at speeds of 900MPH, steering has to be natural. Quantum Redshift is probably one of the best Xbox games released to date. It is the fastest pace racing game I have ever played. I was a major Star Wars: Racer fan and Redshift delivers the same great style that SWR delivered for me on N64. The worlds are so well detailed; you could mistake it for real life. All of the levels generally have shortcuts. The tracks are huge and cover all sorts of terrain.

Throughout the different levels, you collect different power crystals. Each of the different crystals adds to your power in some way. The red crystal adds power to your homing missiles, the blue crystal adds power to your non homing weapon, the yellow crystal powers your over shield, and the mega-up crystal is all of the crystals powers combined. With use of your weapons, you can literally destroy the competition.

As you progress through the game, you can upgrade your engine, shields, and weapons with the points you accumulate from completing levels. The more damage you cause to your opponents, the more points you get. The faster you finish the race, the more points you get.

To earn more points, you need more speed. To gain more speed, you need to open up new difficulty levels. There are five different difficulty levels to earn. There is novice, amateur, expert, master, and redshift.

You don’t want to compete? Take a quick race. This race won’t affect your track record, but it will sure keep you busy.

Have some friends over? How about some four players split screen racing? After some extensive multiplayer action, I can safely say that this game is an ideal party game. There is nothing better than destroying your friend’s racer just as they approach the finish.

Graphics: Quantum Redshift is a visual masterpiece. The scenery is beautifully detailed, and the crafts are stunningly cool. This game probably has some of the best video game water ever. When you splash into the water hard enough, or if it is raining, you get water drops on your screen. It moves around your screen as you steer your craft. At first glance you might even try to wipe your screen off. This is a great game to show off your Xbox with.

Controls: Although Quantum Redshift is not your traditional racer, it maintains the same basic controls as other racing titles.
R = Accelerate
L = Powerslide
A = Turbo Boost
B = Fire Homing Weapon
Y = Activate Overshield
X = Fire non-homing weapon

This is a game that can be played by anyone, even the players who are new to Xbox.

Replay: Quantum Redshift is one of those games that you will want to play over and over again. There are tons of things to unlock, such as new difficulty levels, extra characters, and new vessel upgrades. Even if you aren’t the kind of person who wants to unlock everything, you will want to play this game over and over again. It is just that much fun.

Sound: This game is great in Dolby Digital 5.1. The only problem is some people will not like the techno soundtrack. At least they put in custom soundtrack support.

Overall Presentation: If you feel a need for speed, this is the game for you!
